what is NLP?

NLP means Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

The 3 elements which combine to let all of us experience the world around us and what it all means to each of us individually. Neuro is around your Neurology and as well as dealing with the mechanics of the body e.g. breathing it is powerful in defining whether it is a positive or negative experience you have and retain.

Linguistic is the power of the language we use. The conversations we have with others and with ourself.

Programming is a term used from IT which I am very familiar with. We all run programmes all the days of our lives and wouldn't you want those programmes to be positive in your life.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming in effect is the way mind (neuro) and language (linguistic) and how their work together effects our body and behavior (programming).

NLP has a number of presuppositions which as practitioners are very useful when working with clients and in daily life as none of us really know the world as it is. We only know our world....

Some of the ones which I try to remember and use when working with people in any environment are -

1. The meaning and outcome of communication is in the response you get. Interesting to remember this when dealing with my children :-)

2. Mind and Body affect each other

3. People have all the resources they need to make the changes they want

4. There is no failure only feedback. How different the world would be if you lived your life with this presupposition as a guiding principle

There are many more  but I find these ones very useful.
